Sens. Scott, Graham secure $21.6 million grant for SC Ports that will lead to new jobs
Sen. Lindsey Graham and Sen. Tim Scott worked together to help South Carolina Ports Authority secure a $21.6 million grant that will help create new jobs in Ridgeville.
The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded SC Ports Authority the grant, which will make improvements at the Ridgeville Commerce Park.
According to a Sen. Graham press release, Walmart has agreed to make a multi-million dollar investment and create thousands of new jobs at the facility.
The two South Carolina senators wrote a letter to DOT Secretary Elaine Chao back in July for the investment.
The grant will help the area in multiple ways.
- Construction of a new two-mile long industrial access road.
- Construction of a new 20-acre truck chassis/empty container storage yard in preparation for development of an import distribution center.
- Widening of approximately three-quarters of a mile of an existing off-site road (SC27) to provide improved access from the project site to I-26.
