You likely won't have to put up pro-union posters at your work site; NLRB loses again

Tuesday | June 18, 2013

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., also welcomed the court's ruling. "The NLRB was established as an unbiased arbiter, but President Obama has turned it into a pro-union, anti-right-to-work organization that often oversteps its bounds," Scott said. "I applaud this court decision, which recognizes that the board has taken on an unintended activist role."… Continue Reading

Senate Education Committee Considers NCLB Bill

Wednesday | June 12, 2013

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., introduced an amendment that would have...made it clear that states can change their standards without the permission of the secretary of education—an emerging issue, since many states made participation in the common-core standards a piece of their waiver plans. Harkin called the amendment "a direct attack on Common Core"—and Scott happily agreed.… Continue Reading

Five Republican U.S. senators said Friday they have asked the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to investigate whether California is inappropriately concealing details of contracts for its health insurance exchange. GOP senators on committee target three labor nominees

Friday | May 17, 2013

While the nomination of Pearce, a former Buffalo labor lawyer, to a full five-year term proved to be the least controversial of the three, he endured tough questioning from both Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., about whether the labor board had made it too easy for unions to organize. They said they were especially concerned that the board was sanctioning the formation of “micro-unions” that include as few as two employees.… Continue Reading

GOP Effort Against Labor Nominee Gains Steam

Wednesday | May 8, 2013

"Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., backed by ranking member Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., said he planned to object Wednesday afternoon to a generally agreed upon rule that allows committees to meet after the Senate has been in session for more than two hours. As a result, Harkin was forced to reschedule the vote for May 16. Scott, who believes Perez took a heavy hand in his state in enforcing the 1964 Voting Rights Act, would not rule out a filibuster of his nomination. “It seems like there is still a red state bias and the notion of a partisan approach is not necessarily needed at the Department of Labor,” Scott said."… Continue Reading

There is apparently good news for threatened Savannah River Site employees, as the federal funds to avoid furloughs are one step closer to the finish line. From the House to the Senate

Monday | April 22, 2013

When Republican senator Tim Scott addresses an audience, he paces back and forth on the stage. He doesn’t use notes or look at a teleprompter. When he asks his audience a question, he expects to hear an answer.… Continue Reading
