Scott Statement on $400 Million Ransom to Iran

Senator Tim Scott issued the statement below following the State Department admitting this afternoon they used a $400 million payment to Iran as “leverage” to release American prisoners.

“After weeks of denials, the administration is finally admitting they gave Iran $400 million in ransom payments. We are all happy to see Americans unjustly imprisoned in Iran return home, but the President has set a dangerous precedent and put a price on American lives. This reckless decision making and lack of transparency only adds to the American public’s distrust of this administration’s dangerous foreign policy.”
