Scott Supports Homeland Security Secretary

Washington– U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the statement below after supporting the nomination of General John Kelly for Secretary of Homeland Security. General Kelly’s nomination passed the Senate by a vote of 88-11.

“In a time when Americans fear another domestic terror attack, we need a person heading our Department of Homeland Security who understands the importance of national security, counterterrorism, and immigration enforcement. General John Kelly has proven he possesses the experience and knowledge needed to take on such a critical role on the administration.

During his extensive 40-year Marine Corps career, Gen. Kelly has spent time in Europe and in the Middle East planning missions and operations designed to fight terrorism abroad. Additionally, while serving as the head of U.S. Southern Command, he was able to gain a unique understanding of the immigration challenges we face at our Southern border. As government leaders, we need to work on protecting the safety of our citizens first and foremost. I am confident Gen. Kelly will make that his top priority.”
