Sen. Scott Statement on Retirement of Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) issued the following statement on former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) announcement that he will leave Congress at the end of the year:

“Kevin McCarthy’s story embodies the promise of the American Dream. Born into a middle-class family in Bakersfield, California, Kevin went on to not only be a member of Congress, but Whip, Leader and the 55th Speaker of the House. As a steadfast conservative fighter, his leadership was oftentimes the sole calming force during Congress’s most turbulent moments. While he will be dearly missed by his colleagues and the institution, I wish my friend Kevin and his family happiness and fulfillment as they enter into this exciting next chapter.”
