Senator Scott Applauds $218,000 USDA Grant to Expand High-Speed Internet Access in Hampton County
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) released a statement celebrating a $218,000 cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Project with the Hampton County Government to advance high-speed internet expansion across eight communities in Hampton County, South Carolina. The cooperative agreement represents a significant step forward in addressing connectivity challenges that have particularly impacted rural areas. High-speed internet access is essential for modern healthcare delivery, educational opportunities, agricultural technology adoption, and economic development initiatives.
“Access to reliable high-speed internet is no longer a luxury – it’s an economic necessity,” said Senator Scott. “This USDA investment in Hampton County will help bridge the digital divide and ensure our rural communities have the connectivity they need to compete in the 21st century economy. From telemedicine and distance learning to agricultural innovation and small business growth, broadband access opens doors to countless opportunities.”
The USDA Rural Development funding will enable Hampton County Government to prepare a comprehensive feasibility study and actively promote broadband expansion initiatives throughout the region. This critical investment addresses the digital divide that has long limited economic opportunities and essential services in rural South Carolina communities.
Hampton County Government will use the grant funding to conduct thorough feasibility assessments and develop strategic plans for broadband infrastructure expansion. The comprehensive study will identify the most effective approaches to bring reliable internet service to underserved areas across the county’s eight targeted communities.
