Senator Scott Honors Independence Day

Charleston, SC– On Independence Day, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) issued the following statement:

“As our country turns two hundred and thirty-nine, we celebrate the brave decision of our founders to establish a country based on ideals we continue to treasure today. In our Declaration of Independence, they affirmed that each of us is endowed with inalienable rights given by God, not government.

“When they declared their independence from Great Britain, they did so at great risk and we can honor their bravery by continuing the fight for access to ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’ for all.

“And while we enjoy the parades, fireworks and family time, we also must pause to salute those brave servicemen and women, our nation’s veterans and their families for their continued actions to protect and advance America’s freedom.

“I’m proud that for two hundred and thirty-nine years, America has been a beacon of freedom, democracy and hope around the world. We must continue to be that beacon.”
