Senator Scott Statement on Obama’s Final Budget

Washington – U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the statement below regarding President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2017 budget proposal. Obama’s proposal comes a week late, marking the seventh time in eight years he has missed the budget deadlines codified by the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974.

“President Obama’s final budget proposal raises taxes, focuses on new spending and ignores our $19 trillion debt. While far from a surprise, it is extremely disappointing that instead of submitting a proposal to actually address our fiscal concerns, the President has simply created a liberal wish list. There is no doubt it is DOA upon arrival in Congress.

Moving forward, we must create a budget that brings fiscal sanity back to our nation, and does not pass the mistakes made by free spenders in Washington down to the American people.”
