Senator Scott Statement on SCOTUS Decision Protecting Faith-Based Foster Care Providers

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision in the Fulton V. Philadelphia case.

“At a time when religious freedoms are under assault, today’s unanimous Supreme Court decision reaffirms the rights of all Americans to live according to their convictions and provides hope for the hundreds of thousands of children looking for a loving home,” said Senator Scott. “Now is the time for Congress to do its job and pass the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act to codify in law what the Supreme Court made clear today: there is no room for religious discrimination in this country.”

Background: For years, Senator Scott has led the fight to protect religious foster care agencies and support our nation’s children in the foster care system. In March, he introduced the Child Welfare Protection Act in the Senate to protect child welfare providers from being discriminated against based on religious beliefs. The senator also led a bicameral congressional amicus brief in support of the foster care agency, which was sent to the Supreme Court.
