Senator Scott Statement on Senate Confirmation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert L. Wilkie

WASHINGTON D.C.—U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the following statement after the Senate confirmed the appointment of Robert L. Wilkie to be Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA):

“South Carolina is home to almost half a million veterans and these men and women deserve the honor, respect, and care they have earned with their selfless sacrifice,” said Scott. “As a former Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Secretary Wilkie has an impressive and proven background that makes him the ideal leader for the VA. I trust he will make progress in reforming and improving the department so that it may better serve the needs of the veterans in South Carolina and across the country.”

Last month, Senator Scott voted in favor of the VA Mission Act—now law—that reforms the VA so South Carolina veterans have expanded opportunities to access healthcare. Read his statement on the VA Mission Act here.
