Washington– Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) today voted in favor of controlling government spending while providing the military and federal departments and agencies with needed flexibility to make responsible spending reductions. The measure failed due to lack of support from Senate Democrats.

“It is clear that we need to get our government spending under control,” Senator Scott said. “However, I do not think the blunt approach taken by the President’s sequester is the smartest way to do so, which is why I voted to give our military commanders and department heads flexibility to reduce their spending in a responsible way. Unfortunately my Democratic colleagues continue to insist on increasing taxes on American families once again.”

Today, Senator Scott voted in favor of cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 16. The Senator also voted twice last year in the House for responsible alternative spending reductions to replace the sequester.
