Celebrating 71 Years of Ministry

The last nun remaining at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System has retired. Sister Dorothy Brogan ministered to the sick and dying for the past 71 years in Pennsylvania, Florida, Ecuador and South Carolina. She moved to the Greenville hospital in 2000.

Joseph Mazzawi, vice president of mission, said Brogan was the first sister to come to Greenville after Bon Secours purchased the hospital from the Sisters of St. Francis.

“From the time she started here, her role was really to be an anchor and to help orient us into what it truly meant to be part of Bon Secours — to care for the poor, the dying and the underserved,” Mazzawi said.

Brogan, 90, will move to the Sisters of Bon Secours headquarters in Marriottsville, Maryland. She served as the St. Francis Foundation Board president for 12 years. Most recently, she was chaplain for the cancer center.
