A Feb. 20 dinner at Between the Antlers raised money for Keith Holland of Joint Task Force K9s to start a kennel for service dogs in training to work with veterans.

“(PTSD) and this mental health issue that we have going on with our veterans and our police forces, these dogs help these guys to be able to go out in their communities,” Smith said. “They give them a sense of security. It’s pretty awesome to hear them talk about it.”

Smith said he hoped the event would raise $10,000 at $100 a head for a five-course meal. As a veteran, the cause is important to him.

“Through the love of food, you can feed a lot of people, you can raise a lot of money in a short period of time and make a lot of people happy, also,” Smith said.
