SC 4-H Shooting Sports Team wins national title

A team from Clemson University Extension’s 4-H youth development program represented South Carolina and brought home the title of National Champs in Shotgun last month during the 2022 National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships in Grand Island, Nebraska. This is the first time in history SC has won the national title in shotgun sports.

Four South Carolina 4-H members who participate in the state shooting sports program qualified to compete at the national event. This event, which Nebraska 4-H hosts, brought more than 800 4-H’ers from across the country to compete in nine different disciplines.

4-H officials said they were proud of Miller and the positive female role model she has become in this male-dominated sport.

The SC team was 1st in Sporting Clays, 3rd in Skeet, and 6th in Trap. The team will be visiting the state house to be recognized by Governor Henry McMaster in the upcoming weeks.

The Marlboro County 4-H does not currently offer a gun club. However, Marlboro youth are welcome to join the Dillon County 4-H shooting sports team. The new 4-H year kicks off on September 1.
