Charleston-U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the following statement in response to BMW's announcement that it will expand production at their Greer plant, making it the largest production capacity of any BMW plant. "Today's announcement by BMW is positive news for South Carolina. Their investment of $1 billion to expand their Greer plant clearly shows the company believes in our state and in our pro-business, pro-growth approach. It is also a testament to our well trained workforce and commitment to workforce development and job training. I am pleased that as part of their expansion they will add another 800 good paying jobs to our state. Today's announcement continues to demonstrate that South Carolina is a leader in the automotive industry and our nation's manufacturing renaissance." With this expansion, according to BMW, the company will be able to produce up to 450,000 vehicles a year, up from 300,000 currently produced at their plant, with more than 70% for export to foreign markets. Over the 20 years since BMW began production in South Carolina, the plan has produced more than 2.6 million vehicles.
