Senator Tim Scott Statement on Medal of Honor Recipient Corporal Carpenter

Washington, DC- U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the following statement following the awarding of the Medal of Honor to South Carolina Corporal William “Kyle” Carpenter, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret): “Corporal Carpenter is an amazing young man, and I am so proud of him as a South Carolinian and an American. At 24, he has done what most of us will never do in our lifetimes: he has laid his life on the line to protect our country and his fellow soldiers. We should never forget why we are all able to sleep in peace at night-it is through the sacrifice and bravery of the young men and women who defend us. Corporal Carpenter’s courage stands out from the already extraordinary efforts our military members put forth every day, and we are deeply grateful. It was an honor to be able to visit with him, and his message was very simple: to remember and to thank those who give so much to serve.” The Medal of Honor is the highest military award given for bravery, and South Carolinian Corporal Carpenter will be only the second living Marine recipient to be accorded this honor in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.
